We Keep Punctual Appointments

Why should you bring your child to a pediatric dentist? Because we provide everything your child needs for a bright, healthy smile from the first checkup to cleaning to sealants - in a place thatís friendly, familiar and fun.

Dr. Musser and his staff know how to be sensitive to your childís fears from the very first time they come to visit. Whether itís holding a hand or explaining instruments and terminology in a way that educates rather frightens, they help your child look forward to each visit. Positive feelings about dental care formed at this early age often last a lifetime.

Additionally, a childís mouth has to be treated differently than an adult mouth. The teeth and bone structure are different, and they can change almost overnight. Dr. Musser prepares for this development in his treatment plans to give your children the healthy, bright smiles they deserve when they grow up.

Some specifics about Dr. Musserís treatment include:

  • Dr. Musser may recommend sealants for your childís permanent molars to prevent tooth decay. A sealant is a white protective coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of your childís permanent molars. Sealants are quite durable and should last a number of years. They are a step toward preventing tooth decay, but do not replace good oral hygiene and other preventative measures.
  • Dr. Musser also performs restorative dentistry for children. In addition to attending to the routine restorative needs of his child patients, the doctor specializes in complete dental restoration under general anesthesia for children who are apprehensive or were previously traumatized by dental treatment restraints. Dr. Musser and his team do not use restraints or papoose boards at any time and they welcome parents in the Childrenís Treatment Area and work with children at their own pace.

Cause of tooth decay:

Tooth decay results when food containing carbohydrates (sugars and starches) such as milk, soda, raisins, cakes or candy are frequently left on the teeth. Bacteria that live in the mouth thrive on these foods, producing acids as a result. Over time, the acids destroy tooth enamel, resulting in cavities.

Giving your baby a bottle or sippie cup at bedtime can lead to cavities and other dental problems. If the bottle you are giving to your little one at night contains milk, formula, or fruit juice, it can cause prolonged exposure to the sugars that promote decay. If you must give your child a bottle or sippie cup at bedtime, we recommend filling it with plain water.

Join us in teaching your child that by taking care of your teeth, eating a balanced diet and visiting your dentist regularly, you can help keep your mouth healthy and your smile attractive throughout your life.
